Optical Illusions Etc Weblog

Optical Illusions Etc Weblog is "Home of the Sci-Art Bloggers" and full of links to web-based optical tricks. You can find fractals as well as more traditional tricks of the eye. There is a warning that some of the links can lead to vertigo or worse. But for most, the site is more beneficent. The link comes by way of David Pierce's Golden Sparrow Awards.

Optical Illusions Etc.

If optical illusions are your thing, here's the site for you! Walt Anthony has developed this blogspot that will certainly challenge your skills of perception. As Walt states, "These Optical Illusions are presented on this blog in the spirit of providing an entertaining venue to educate those interested in optical illusions and expanding the traditional assumptions of what constitutes an optical illusion." You'll find a Fractal of the Day from Dr. Clint Sprott of the University of Wisconsin Physics Department, illusions in architecture, art and other mediums, all well presented with comments to help you get the most out of the individual images. You might even start your recognizing illusions that you would not have previously seen prior to browsing this blog. Optical Illusions Etc will definitely remind you that 'seeing is NOT believing!'

The Catch-All Drawer

Science <-------> Art

This site, Optical Illusions, Etc. is one of those sites where science and art team up to blur the line between the two disciplines. On this site, see the worldly (truck painting art humor) and the clever-artistic. Don't leave without scrolling down to the hand painted art. . .er . . . I mean the painted hand art.

The Psy Chick, Optical Illusions....

Optical illusions are actually an excellent way to help you build psychic ability. They force your eyes, and more importantly your mind, to focus and see things in new ways.

Today I was surfing on Blog Explosion and came across a blog dedicated to optical illusions. It's called Optical Illusions Etc... and it has several different illusions listed.

This is my favorite: "Holsteins" - a Vermont parody of "Pintos" © 1994 Mike Mayone

You should check out the entire site!

Another really fun site is Optical Illusions, etc. It's a blog that collects all types of illusions, so the content changes every couple of days. I particular the host seems to like (as I do) illusions that occur spontaneously : Look for the Pope or Devil Illusion about a third of the way down the page.

The Aftermath

Tuesday, May 24, 2995

So, this post has been kinda boring. To reward you for reading this far, here's something entertaining. I found this site called Optical Illusions Etc. that is filled with really freaky optical illusions. Spend some time and look through a bunch, they were really blowing my mind. The previous link is to the main page; click here to go the Site Map, which gives a comprehensive list of all the illusions on the site. I'd encourage you to check out one called Illusive Reality, which just completely blew my mind. Have patience, it loads a little slow, but it's completely worth it.
Explore the whole site, there is a lot of really cool stuff to see.

You'll find links to the traditional eye-bending Web illusions and eye-catching fractals here, but scroll a little more thoroughly and catch some really original stuff. One that caught our eye from the current set was the human Mr. Potato Head. We were also surprised by the "bumps vs. holes" experiment and the under-sea Indian restaurant, which is not an illusion at all but still visually amazing. -— SG

Enlgish12 Blog Review

Illusions

Great Optical Illusion Blog.
This was the best blog I found and trust me I looked through a lot of them. this one is about optical illusions as you can tell by the URL. It shows things from disappearing dots to two fixed circles spinning as you lean closer. It also spoke of a women who from the miracle of science she looks like she has two real eyes. However, one eye is fake. And lastly, one of the best parts of this blog is the image of a city. It may not seem like much but once you click on the image, you are able to zoom in so close that you can almost spot a fly resting on the side of a building 5 miles away. If anything, you must check this image out. It's great.

I agree with Sondrew that this is one of the best blogs that I have seen. I really like optical illusions and took a long time looking at this blog because I wanted to figure all of them out. One thing that I found really funny was the cyber illusions.” They are illusions of people deceiving one another on the internet. I liked this site because it not only gave the illusions, but it also gave the reasoning and explanation behind them. 11:25 AM

Blogs Over Easy Review

Optical Illusions Etc.

When the first sentence on a blog that jumps out at you contains a warning about possibly causing epileptic seizures, you just know there's going to be something good to be found there.

I'’ve always been a sucker for optical illusions. Yes, I am one of the dolts who will stand for hours at the kiosk in the mall selling those 3-D pictures. I'’m fascinated with the tricks that can be played on your brain. It all started with one my teacher gave to us when I was in 6th grade – it was a pattern you stared at for 30 seconds, then when you closed your eyes you could still see it. I like magic tricks too. I'’m a sucker in general I guess.

I will say you should definitely follow Walt'’s advice here though if you start feeling kind of woozy after a couple of these I started to get a bit of a headache and had to walk away from my computer for a little while. If you have the same reaction, just don'’t spend a lot of time in one session at this blog, but come back over and over for the new stuff and check out one or two of the old ones as you go along. BlogCruiser Review

"“Illusions Etc..."” if you'’re amused and enjoy illusions and other tricks then this is a great blog to visit. I was fascinated and intrigued by some of the available items and information at this blog. I'’m glad I stumbled across this one during my blog cruising adventures. There are a whole lot of links and explanations to view along with plenty out of the ordinary things to discover. Animations, distortions, illusions and perceptions only scratch the surface of the fun and amusement compiled by this blogger. The straight line cafe illusion, Flash effects, 3-D art effects, humor and other attention-grabbing art. There are a few ads but mostly text based google ads. The blogger template is tweaked a little but the design does not do much for me. However, the blogs content is an admirable gathering of enjoyable information. I give it 9 stars. Tehy eevn epxlian why I dnoÂ’t hvae to use a splel chceekr!
